Texas Tops / Dairy Queen Monthly Ice Cream Social -- McAllen

On the second Saturday of every month, Jay Hanshaw invites all those who enjoy old cars and hot rods over to his place for a truly neat event.  Jay is the owner of Texas Tops in McAllen, which sells and installs various truck and vehicle accessories and toppers for pick-ups.  Jay also owns a beautiful 1924 Buick sedan, and a nostalgic 1958 Chevrolet Nomad.  He not only invites us all to come out and enjoy the time hanging out in his parking lot, but he even buys the first 50 cars there a couple of ice cream sundaes from the neighboring Dairy Queen.  Jay cares about cars and the people who like them so much, he even went and had extra lights installed in the parking lot which he turns on just for this event each month.

Each month, this event attracts on average about 60 various cars.  Some people stop by and stay the whole time, while others will come and go throughout the evening.  One of the truly interesting things with this event is that it seems every month that there are always different people and cars that show up.  Often cars that have not ever been seen before or that were not known to be in the area make their appearance at this event.  There also is usually a good number of corvettes and mustangs that stop in from the valley corvette club and mustang club.  Often a few interesting motorcycles also come and hang out with the crowd for a while as well.

This event has really become a fun event to come out to.  It is nice for families to stop by and look at the various cars and visit with the owners.  You can bring out your own chair and sit in the evening breeze and visit with others, stop and get something to eat at the Dairy Queen, take a look through Jay's store and view his many neat pictures and various antiques which decorate the facility.  Jay is a true car nut and a true friend to the old car community.  He also is a distributor for all your MoonEyes equipment needs for your hot rod and sells various goodies for you and your car.  Be sure to stop by and enjoy this event the next time it comes up.  This outing is held every second Saturday of each month at Texas Tops / Dairy Queen in McAllen, located on Business 83 near the corner of McColl.  Be sure to come out and join us next time and be sure to say hello to Jay and thank him for all his efforts.

For more information contact Jay at Texas Tops at (956) 682-1148 or email:  textops@aol.com
